Rostov Arena is a football stadium in Rostov-on-Don, built for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Preparations for the tournament required ticketing and access control infrastructure that met FIFA requirements, controlled access for different visitor categories, and integrated with the tournament’s information systems.

Infomatika was responsible for the following tasks:

  • Create the stadium’s ticketing and access control infrastructure for the 2018 FIFA World Cup;
  • Adapt LENTA software to FIFA requirements;
  • Enable integration with the ticketing operator, FIFA’s accreditation system, and the Fan ID system;
  • Equip stadium entrances with turnstiles, gates, and mobile ticket validation devices;
  • Set up automated staff workstations and the required network infrastructure;
  • Provide on-site technical support for the access control system during World Cup matches.

Infomatika served as a contractor to FIFA Ticketing for the implementation of the access control system at Rostov Arena. On World Cup match days, Infomatika engineers worked on site to provide technical support for the system.

Key Project Components

  • LENTA Automated Ticketing and Access Control System. Automates ticketing and admission processes, from ticket data processing to spectator entry. LENTA application software was adapted to FIFA requirements as part of Rostov Arena’s preparations for the 2018 World Cup.
  • Spectator Access Control System. Manages visitor entry through the stadium’s entrance areas and connects access control equipment with the venue’s ticketing infrastructure.
  • Pedestal-Type Two-Arm Turnstiles. Installed at stadium entrances to provide controlled spectator access.
  • Motorized Full-Height Single-Lane Turnstiles. Installed as part of the stadium’s entrance infrastructure to provide controlled visitor access.
  • Motorized Gates and Full-Height Turnstile Gates. Complement the entrance configuration and accommodate different access scenarios.
  • LENTA-Linea Pro NFC Mobile Terminals. Used by ticket resolution teams for mobile ticket validation.

Integration

For World Cup operations, Infomatika specialists implemented integration buses connecting LENTA with the ticketing operator, FIFA’s accreditation system, and the 2018 World Cup Fan ID system.

Additional integration solutions enabled communication with external ticketing operators for continued operation in post-tournament legacy mode.

System Management Infrastructure

Thirty-eight automated workstations were installed to operate the ticketing and access control system: 30 cashier workstations, 3 manager workstations, 3 accreditation workstations, and 2 central system node workstations.

Twenty-two Wi-Fi access points were also deployed to support system operations.

Technical Support During the 2018 World Cup

Infomatika served as a contractor to FIFA Ticketing for the implementation of access control systems at the 2018 World Cup stadiums, carrying out full system preparation and providing technical support throughout the tournament.

The stadium hosted five tournament matches: four group-stage games—Brazil–Switzerland, Uruguay–Saudi Arabia, South Korea–Mexico, and Iceland–Croatia—and the Belgium–Japan round-of-16 match.
