Turnstiles for Nizhny Novgorod metro

Infomatika, a Russian developer and manufacturer of access control and ticket system solutions, has implemented a project to modernize the Zarechnaya station of the Nizhny Novgorod Metro, equipping it with modern Contour-EK smart turnstiles with support for all current fare payment methods and integration with the regional aQsi cube transport system.

Since the opening of the Zarechnaya station in 1985, the installed access control equipment has not been updated. Long-term operation of outdated devices led to failures, high power consumption and increased maintenance costs. As part of the project, Infomatics performed a full range of work, including the production, supply, installation and commissioning of smart turnstiles of the new Kontur-EK modification. There are 16 aisles of equipment installed at the station's entrances in two lobbies.

The smart turnstiles are made of stainless steel and tempered glass, equipped with a color display, intelligent light indication, and modern readers that support contactless payments, bank cards, all types of barcodes/QR codes, biometrics, and NFC tags. Turnstiles of this model have been installed and are successfully operating in other Russian cities: the Yekaterinburg and Novosibirsk metros.

A special feature of the new modification is the built-in validator aQsi cube, which ensures the integration of equipment with the current transport system of the region. The validator is made in an impact-resistant housing, has a vandal-proof touch screen, is protected from moisture and low temperatures, which guarantees stable operation in conditions of intensive operation. The implementation of the project has significantly increased the capacity of the station, reduced the burden on maintenance and provided passengers with convenience when paying for travel in any way.

On October 24, 2025, the mayor of Nizhny Novgorod, Yuri Shalabaev, tested the operation of new turnstiles at the Zarechnaya station. According to him, the modernization of the station was the first in the framework of a large-scale equipment upgrade program at all stations of the Nizhny Novgorod metro.
